for more gain, here is an improved version. it is a reflex design, and utilize the first transistor for both RF and AF amplification.

I know I owe you a picture, so here it goes.

the breadboard on the left is the mosfet varicap (there is a polycap, unused right now). and the radio itself is on the right.

here is the radio. there are three to92 devices there. the first two are for the radio (2n5551x2), and the last one, on the right, is a 2n5484 (jfet) and at this point it is unused.

the two leds provide a 4v power supply to the radio. the power comes from a 16vdc notebook power adapter.

here is the mosfet varicap. the mosfet (fqp1n50) is a dpak device, and you can barely see it.

it takes just the left side of the breadboard. the right side I think is an oscillator.

wow, that is impressive.

I've never used a breadboard b4,  
I suddenly got the urge to buy one tomorrow.

May I use the wires in a CAT5e cable (for 100M base-T Ehthernet) as those jumpers, when cut into similar pieces?
AFAIK, local dealers sell those jumpers separately, which is a pain in the neck. And that's why I avoid it.

i use hook-up wires,  sold at radioshack and homedepot - easy and cheap.
