it depends on how much money you have. you can easily get one of those desktop transceivers - they will easily run you several thousand dollars (and more).
among portables, Sony, Panasonic and Kenwood produced many nice (analog) shortwave receivers in the 1980s and through 1990s (Sony). they will easily cost you a few hundred dollars today on the used market.
in terms of new ones, BLC-3000 (Grundig 450dl) is a very nice unit ($100 in the US and much cheaper in China). eton/Tecsun makes a satellite 750 that goes for $300 - 500 new.
I have a sony 7600g (bought new for < $100 and now quite hard to find). its sw performance is similar to kaito 911 (a $20 radio), or degen de321 (a $10 radio).
the point is that any sw radio made in china over the last decade for <$50 will be a "high - performance" radio. |
