two things:
1) when you are coasting, your engine is acting like an air compressor to the wheels so you will coast shorter while in geer, more so for large displacement engine / manual transmission vs. small displacement engine / auto transmission.
2) modern cars typically shuts down the engine (no fuel is being injected into the combustion chambers) when the car is idling.
another factor to consider is that you add more wear / tear with the shifting of your transmission in / out of gears.
I typically just leave it engaged, for the convenience. |
